iReal Pro App – Dorian Backing Track

The iReal Pro app for iPhone/iPad allows you to generate backing tracks for any chord progression you want. Simply input the chord progression and select what style you want for your backing track. In-app purchases allow you to increase the range of styles you can generate tracks for.  The app is similar to band in a box but a fraction of the price.

Here’s a backing track I generated to experiment and practice with the dorian mode or the minor pentatonic scale. There’s two versions here, one for A Dorian/A Minor Pentatonic and one for E Dorian/E Minor Pentatonic.

To generate the tracks, I simply input a chord progression that is based of the chords formed from the Dorian mode and selected the RnB style.  I then just had to use the transpose function to generate the track for E Dorian.  A really useful app and you can generate backings like this based on any chord progression you want.
